La Honda NSR500 era una moto da corsa V4 a due tempi che divenne quasi immediatamente il riferimento per tutti gli altri costruttori che gareggiavano nel Campionato del Mondo 500cc, ora chiamato MotoGP.
Introdotto nel 1984, ha vinto 10 delle 19 stagioni agonistiche della sua vita, per mano di leggende delle corse come Wayne Gardner e Valentino Rossi, quest'ultimo conquistando il suo primo titolo mondiale in uno.
Ma è stato Mick Doohan a sfruttare al meglio la forza bruta e le presunte cattive maniere della sopraffatta bestia a due tempi - con un motore soprannominato il "Big Bang" cos'altro ci si poteva aspettare? - vincere cinque Mondiali consecutivi da 94 a 98. Ma non solo vincere. Era più come schiacciare la concorrenza con vittorie dominanti e schiaccianti in ciascuno di quegli anni.
Tanto che Doohan era persino registrato in quel momento dicendo che le corse erano diventate noiose. Noioso, disse.

The Honda NSR500 was a two-stroke V4 racer that almost instantly became the reference for all the other manufacturers competing on the 500cc World Championship - now called MotoGP.
Introduced in 1984, it won 10 out of the 19 racing seasons of its lifespan, at the hands of racing legends like Wayne Gardner and Valentino Rossi, the latter taking his first World title in one.
But it was Mick Doohan that best harnessed the brute force, and alleged bad manners, of the overpowered two-stroke beast - with an engine dubbed the "Big Bang" what else could be expected? - winning five consecutive World Championships from 94 to 98. But not just winning. It was more like crushing the competition with dominant and overwhelming victories in each of those years.
So much so that Doohan was even on record at the time saying that racing had become boring. Boring, he said.
